Round 3Division 1 roundup
Here we are again with the latest results from the top flight in Zimbabwe. This week was a tough one for the scoreboard operators with 343 points being scored, rumours are that if this keeps up there will be threats of industrial action until a pay rise is negotiated.
Muffin Chuckers 83 – 0 Velflex Super UnitedWith 3 wins out of 3 and averaging 100 points per game (yes you read that correctly), it is looking very much like Squeaks team have set their sites very firmly on retaining their Div I title.
The game itself was a one-sided affair, with many pundits suggesting that Velflex had one eye on their midweek cup clash with Ashlands RUFC. However, even if they had been fully focused, it would have taken something special to beat the Muffin Chuckers when Royston is in this type of form. A 10 star performance and a personal haul of 28 points meant that there was no trouble picking the man of the match.
Squeaks team scored at more than a point a minute and apart from one opportunity in the 34th min which was easily dealt with, Velflex never threatened to trouble the overworked scoreboard operators.
Next week sees the Muffin Chuckers away at Zimbabwe Warriors and if they take this sort of form with them, then heaven help the Warriors.
Dreams 14 – 49 HurricanesFans of the Hurricanes will be glad to finally get their first win of the season. Although they may have the TMO to thank for their first try of the game as Hoult was hugging the touchline just a little too closely when he scored in the corner. Yaya’s team then hit their straps to score two further tries alongside two well struck penalties, to make the halftime score 0 – 25.
The second half started in much the same vein as Power lived up to his name when he scored an excellent individual try in the 46th min to effectively put the game beyond the home side. Two late consolation tries gave the home fans a little to cheer about, but it looks like being a long hard season for Dreams.
Dunedain Exiles 124 – 0 Macheke WarriorsA hat-trick of tries from U20’s starlet Lucas du Randt helped Dunedain to a very easy win against the league’s (bot)tom team. The match was true to form as the Exiles opened the scoring after just 33 seconds through their No.10 Tossel who some 19 kicks at goal later, also scored the last points of the game to end with a very sore kicking leg.
With the U20’s starting their campaign next week, Exiles fans will be hoping that their manager doesn’t let this distract him from his day job.
Kamikazi Samurais 73 – 0 Zimbabwe WarriorsWho needs a manager when your players are this good!!!
With their AWOL manger still incommunicado, the Samurais players stood up to the plate to show their class in this lop-sided match. Their only disappointment will be that only 12,553 spectators came through the turnstiles to see them run in 11 unanswered tries against a distinctly lacklustre Zimbabwe Warriors.
As for the Zimbabwe Warriors fans, they might be mistaken for thinking that Blackout Cricket has come early.
